Kathy & Centa


Kathy & Centa at the 2015 L.E.T.S. Certification Seminar

Kathy Newman has been involved with K-9 search and rescue for over 30 years. Kathy is a NASAR Sar-Tech II. She has attended over 80 seminars on Search and Rescue and spent 3 weeks at the Connecticut Police K-9 training center, training in Cadaver.

Kathy’s K9 partner is a Belgain Malinois named Centa. Kathy has trained and certified her dogs in Air-Scent, Trailing, Land and Water Cadaver, Diasater, and Evidence. She has also trained and handled her own dogs in the areas of Obedience, Rally, Conformation, and Schutzhund. Kathy has trained dogs to aid the deaf, Police k-9’s, and other service dogs. She was a part-time licensed police reserve for 26 years. Kathy has taught at several seminars around the country and enjoys helping people train their dogs.

Jackie & Zeus


Jackie joined MinnSARDA in 2004 and has served as base and field support. She has held the offices of Secretary and Co-Training Director at various times over the years. Her first SAR dog, Storm (Border Collie), was Trailing and Land cadaver certified. Storm is now very reluctantly retired. After leaving SAR for a couple years, Jackie is back with her current partner Zeus! Zeus is a German Shepherd/ Great Dane mix and is certified in Land and Water Cadaver. Both Storm and Zeus share Jackie’s home with her human family as well as a cat, Dusty, and a rabbit, Binks. Jackie has done in-home dog training with various clients in the metro area and has also been a service dog trainer with PawPADS out of Lakeville, MN. When Jackie is not working with dogs, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and hiking.

Karie & Leia


Karie joined MinnSARDA in the summer of 2014. Karie and her German Shepherd, Kenobi, tried their hand (and paw) at Air-Scent but Kenobi decided SAR just wasn’t for him. Karie and her current partner, Leia, are certified in Trailing and provide base and field support for the unit. In their free time, Karie and her dogs enjoy watching Star Wars and playing fetch.

Greg & Lincoln

Greg became involved in SAR in 2016 with his Doberman partner, Lincoln. Greg, originally from Flint, MN, resides in Minneapolis and holds a degree in audio electronics. Greg is a social worker with the Salvation Army and primarily assists individuals in shelter and experiencing homelessness. Greg is also a member of the Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services in the northern U.S. division, where he assists in their Incident Command System after disasters occur. Lincoln was born February 22, 2016, a pup of Edward, an international agility and obedience champion bred by Terri Nelson of Kings Ransom Dobermans. He is AKC registered and holds his Canine Good Citizen certification. Outside of SAR, Greg enjoys hiking, camping, range shooting, and watching Detroit sports teams with the ever loving, loyal, and intelligent Lincoln.
